Seed bead bracelet

by monika on March 10th, 2010

My first try at making a tubular peyote bracelet using the uneven peyote stitch technique.  I wanted to try to make something using the tubular technque because I thought it would create a nice effect, but at the same time I thought it was best to start small since I had a limited supply of seed beads and because I wanted to see the result fairly quickly. I started stitching around a plastic chop stick, but it kept falling out so I replaced it with the leather band which I also used for a very simple clasp.

In the beginning, I was not quite sure how  the pattern would turn out, and it took a couple of tries to figure out what happens with the different layers, but I think that it turned out fairly well considering that I am new to the technique.

how do you start the spiral necklace? Is it 10, 11, and what is the large need you use. An 8?

I started the spiral necklace kind of in the middle and worked outwards towards both sides when I ran out of the largest magnetite beads. I think that the light purple seed beads are size 11/0 and the white ones are slightly larger. The dark seed beads at the end are the same size as the white ones and the round magnetite beads are 3 mm. The biggest beads in the spiral are not seed beads but small disc-shaped magnetite beads, I think they are about 2×4 mm in size.
When I decided to make the spiral, I selected the beads from what I had available and went from there. What matters to me is to find colors and materials that fit together and I try different beads until I find something that I think will work.
